Public Patients - What will this cost me?

Please note parking can be difficult so please allow adequate time to park and walk to the clinic. Appointments are scheduled for approximately 20 minutes. Please arrive on time or you will be required to re-schedule your appointment for a later date.

Your admission and surgery as a Public patient at Joondalup Health Campus will be funded by the WA Department of Health in full.

However, there will be some minor out of pocket costs involved with the assessment process undertaken by Joondalup Bariatric Services. As there is no publicly funded outpatient department at Joondalup Health Campus, services provided to you by Joondalup Bariatric Services are provided in their private rooms. All costs associated with running the private rooms are funded by the Surgeon. If you have a valid Medicare card, you will be able to claim a Medicare rebate for appointments with the Bariatric GP and the Surgeon. The Chronic Disease Management Plan must be current to allow Medicare rebates for allied health services such as the dietician and the clinical psychologist.

If you hold a pension or healthcare card you will be eligible for a discount on some appointments.

There may be some out of pocket costs associated with blood tests, ultrasounds and other investigations deemed necessary during your workup. You will be responsible for paying these costs.

You will be referred to see a dietitian during the pre-approval stage, immediately before your after your surgery. This is important to assist you in meeting your nutritional requirements and remaining healthy while you lose weight. All of the Dietitians at JHC are Accredited Practicing Dietitians (APDs) which means they are recognised professionals with the qualifications and skills to provide expert nutrition and dietary advice.

You are required to pay for the Dietetics service after each appointment. All of the Dietitians have Medicare provider numbers and accept Chronic Disease Management Plans (CDMP) where up to five visits per calendar year can be allocated to Dietetics. lf your GP has given you a CDMP please bring it with you so the Medicare rebate can be processed right away and you will only need to pay the gap. If you do not bring a CDMP with you, you will need to pay for the appointment then organise a rebate with Medicare directly. If your GP has put you on a CDMP, you may be entitled to claim one or all of your dietetic appointments through Medicare (a maximum of 5 visits per calendar year). Please note that you will be charged any gap in the consultation fee and the Medicare rebate at the time of your appointment.

The following table shows the fees you will be charged when you see the Dietitians at Joondalup Health Campus in the dietetic clinic rooms.
